Holidays are all about having fun. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, skiing down a mountain or seeing the sights, on holiday, you want to make good memories to last a lifetime.
At Jefferies, we surveyed 600 people to learn more about holiday safety habits. We found that generally, people tend to be more carefree about their safety when on holiday and a large number of people fail to take out holiday insurance to protect themselves while they are away.
Holidays can be ruined by dirty water causing sickness, broken bones following a slip by the swimming pool or food poisoning from a dodgy meal. We found that 20% of people had suffered a holiday accident or illness and 15% had suffered from holiday food poisoning.
If the worst does happen, holiday insurance is critical in ensuring you’re protected and prevents you from racking up a hefty medical bill. However, holiday insurance is a priority for only 65% of people and as many as 40% of those we spoke to had travelled abroad without it in the past. This was most common amongst younger holidaymakers, with 51% of 18-24-year-olds admitting they had travelled without insurance.
Unfortunately, sometimes, amidst the fun, accidents can occur, so it’s always best to be prepared. For helpful tips to help make sure your holiday goes down without a hitch, check out our Holiday Hazards infographic below.
